Senona, a witness at the Madlanga Commission, admitted to urging businesswoman ‘Cat’ Matlala to legally challenge the South African Police Service (SAPS) after a R360 million contract was terminated. The commission is investigating allegations of irregular dealings between Matlala and senior police officials.

Senona’s Testimony and Legal Challenge

Senona testified that she advised Matlala to pursue legal action following the cancellation of the contract. This admission came during continued testimony before the commission, where Senona faced intense questioning regarding her interactions with Matlala and her knowledge of the contract details.

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Hawks boss was also grilled regarding the sharing of personal details of SAPS officers with Matlala. Concerns were raised about the potential compromise of officer safety and the appropriateness of sharing such information with a civilian.

WhatsApp Text and Disclosure Order

Senona was ordered to disclose the name featured in a WhatsApp text exchange with Mkhwanazi, despite raising concerns about her safety. The commission deemed the information relevant to the investigation and overruled her objections.

Alleged Meeting and Commission Proceedings

Mkhwanazi is scheduled to address allegations of a meeting with Matlala at the Madlanga Commission. The nature and purpose of this alleged meeting are central to the commission’s inquiry into potential irregularities.

Senona described her experience testifying as being “crucified,” indicating the challenging nature of the questioning she has faced. She is expected to resume her testimony as the commission continues its investigation.
