FDA Inspection at B.G. Goyal & Co.
Seizure of 4,172 Kilograms of Suspicious Food Products
On Tuesday, officials from the Food and Drug Administration conducted a surprise inspection of B.G. Goyal & Co., a spice trading firm located in the Market Yard area of Pune. The operation, directed by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, resulted in the seizure of 4,172 kilograms of food items deemed suspicious and harmful to health. The FDA team involved in the operation was led by Joint Commissioner (Food) D.W. Bhogawade and Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Khose, with execution by Food Safety Officers K.L. Sonkamble and Prateek Jadhav.
The total value of the confiscated stock is estimated at 814,630 rupees. The seized inventory includes 598 kilograms of ‘Sant’ brand turmeric powder, 1,258 kilograms of ‘Sadhu’ brand turmeric powder, 538 kilograms of ‘Green Leaf’ sesame seeds, and 1,778 kilograms of ‘Madhur’ soy mini chunks.
Regulatory Violations and Business Closure
Investigation Into Licensing and Labeling Violations by Praveen Goyal
The FDA’s investigation revealed that the establishment was operating without a valid food license or official registration. According to the agency, the business was also found to be operating at a location other than the one for which a license was issued. Beyond the lack of documentation, inspectors cited serious labeling violations on the products found in the warehouse. Due to these discrepancies and the suspicion of adulteration, the agency has issued a notice ordering the business to remain closed until further orders.
Samples from the seized inventory have been forwarded to a laboratory for formal analysis to determine the extent of the quality issues. The FDA has characterized the seized goods as substandard and noted that they were deemed unsafe for human consumption, leading to the primary suspicion that the products posed a risk to public health.
Connection to the Ketan Agarwal Murder Investigation
Sia Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary Accused in Ketan Agarwal Homicide
This regulatory action has drawn significant public attention due to the owner’s connection to the ongoing murder case of Pune-based builder Ketan Agarwal. His death, which occurred on June 18, 2026, near Lohagad Fort, remains a subject of intense investigation. Authorities allege that Agarwal was pushed into a valley from the fort. The primary accused in the homicide, Sia Goyal, and her alleged accomplice, Chetan Chaudhary, were previously engaged to be married to the victim, though reports indicate Sia Goyal was in a relationship with Chaudhary. Both suspects are currently in judicial custody.
Following the tragedy, Ketan’s mother, Rakhi Agarwal, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi via email, requesting that the authorities ensure a swift trial and strict punishment for those responsible. While the murder investigation continues, the sudden enforcement action against the family’s business has caused a stir within the local trading community. The FDA continues to maintain its state-wide campaign against the sale of contaminated and substandard food products, a drive spearheaded by Commissioner Mundhe.
