‘Significant snow’ possible in Toronto and much of southern Ontario Friday: Environment Canada – CTV News

A significant winter weather system is forecast to impact much of southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, on Friday and Boxing Day, bringing the potential for heavy snow and freezing rain.

Winter Weather Threat for Southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region, warning of a developing winter storm. The weather is expected to begin Friday, with snowfall potentially becoming heavy at times.

Freezing rain is also a concern, particularly for areas closer to Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The Weather Network reports that this combination of impactful snow and freezing rain puts Ontario’s Boxing Day travel at risk.

The Toronto Star notes that while a white Christmas is unlikely for Toronto, Boxing Day could deliver blizzard-like conditions. CityNews Kitchener reports the special weather statement includes the possibility of snow and ice pellets on Boxing Day.

CBC News highlights that travellers should take note of the “significant” freezing rain in the forecast. The timing and intensity of the precipitation are still uncertain, and residents are advised to monitor forecasts closely as the system approaches.
