The Sindh Bar Council has called for the removal of Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, alleging that political activities at the Governor House violate the Constitution and threaten provincial unity.

Sindh Bar Council Demands Governor’s Removal

The demand came during the 109th meeting of the Sindh Bar Council on February 21, where members approved a resolution stating the governor’s involvement in political activities and the use of the Governor House for such purposes is unconstitutional.

The council has formally requested President Asif Ali Zardari to immediately remove Tessori from his post, asserting he has “proved himself unfit for representing the federation.”

The resolution emphasized the need for constitutional positions to remain impartial and above politics, with the governor serving as a representative of the federation.

The council also stated that no compromise will be accepted on the unity and integrity of Sindh, and called on the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPPP) to clarify its position regarding power-sharing arrangements with political parties advocating for the division of the province.

Sindhi nationalist leaders recently accused Tessori of using the Governor House as a platform for ethnic politics, following an event attended by leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). Ayaz Latif Palijo, leader of the Qaumi Awami Tehreek, alleged the Governor House had become a “centre for hatching conspiracies against Sindh and Pakistan.”

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also condemned what he described as hateful and linguistically-biased speeches delivered at a recent ceremony at the Governor House, deeming the language and ideas regrettable. He also criticized inappropriate references to state institutions during the event, stating such discussions undermine civic harmony.

Memon expressed concern over elected representatives using the platform to deliver biased messages, noting that the incident, particularly involving MQM members, threatens Karachi’s culture of peace and brotherhood.

The Sindh Bar Council noted that even absent members of the council had endorsed the resolution.
