Valaisan pianist Loris Mittaz will perform at the Sion sous les étoiles festival this Saturday, July 18, 2026. Performing on his largest stage to date, the musician—who lives with degenerative retinitis pigmentosa—will debut a new trio arrangement to engage a diverse festival crowd alongside established headliners.
A Career Milestone at Sion sous les étoiles
The artist, who was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at the Jules-Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital in Lausanne at age five, navigates his career with a unique perspective on his audience. Consequently, he relies on auditory cues—applause and crowd noise—to gauge the size and reaction of his audience. He recalls that during the October 2025 launch of his album Black Out, a spontaneous standing ovation helped him realize the true scale of his following for the first time.

Adapting the Sound: From Solo Piano to Trio
To bridge the gap between his introspective piano compositions and the high-energy festival atmosphere, Mittaz has expanded his performance setup. He will appear on stage accompanied by a bassist and a drummer, a trio that recently tested their setlist at the Epiconik Festival in Lens. The addition of rhythm and bass is designed to encourage movement, as Mittaz seeks to offer festival-goers an experience distinct from his recorded work.
Despite the structured nature of a trio, the pianist intends to maintain his signature improvisational style. He remains tight-lipped regarding rumors that his friend, the Valaisan rapper Berby, might join him to perform the single Blackout, the only vocal track on his recent album.
Growth and Future Aspirations
The success of Black Out has fundamentally altered the trajectory of Mittaz’s career. Before the album’s release, he reached roughly 300 monthly listeners on Spotify; that figure has since climbed to nearly 20,000. This momentum has led to a professional booking arrangement with Opus One and an upcoming tour in Colombia scheduled for November 2026.
