Recent severe weather has brought snow and freezing temperatures to parts of the United Kingdom, impacting travel and bringing wintry scenes to areas unaccustomed to snow. Residents are sharing stories of adapting to the conditions, with some experiencing snow for the very first time.

First Snow for Thailand Natives

Caoimhe, nine, and Levi, six, who typically experience a tropical climate in Thailand where their parents work as teachers, recently had the opportunity to visit family in England and Northern Ireland. They hoped to experience snow for the first time, and their wish was granted at their grandmother, Avril Jones’s, home in Ballyrobert, County Antrim.

“They’ve been amazed by the snow,” said their father, Simon. “It’s definitely something they will always remember, but we’re coming home next Christmas too and they’ll be expecting snow again.”

‘Like a Scene from Narnia’

In Denbighshire, Wales, Ruth Davies described the scene as “like a scene from Narnia,” but noted that the roads are treacherous. Despite having a 4×4 vehicle, she anticipates being unable to travel for several days.

Kyra Beswick was forced to trek two miles through deep snow yesterday while attempting to reach Aberdeen Airport for a flight, but her flight today has been cancelled due to the weather.

In Aberdeenshire, conditions are the worst a local tractor driver has seen in 44 years. Duncan Wright had to “crawl out of his tractor” after becoming stuck in a snowdrift.
