Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General – on the occupied Palestinian territory | Secretary-General

The Secretary-General has expressed deep concern over the Israeli authorities’ decision to suspend the operations of several international non-governmental organizations in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Suspension of NGO Operations Raises Humanitarian Concerns

The Secretary-General is calling for the measure to be reversed, stating that international non-governmental organizations are essential for life-saving humanitarian work. The suspension risks undermining progress made during the recent ceasefire.

The announcement follows earlier restrictions that have already caused delays in the delivery of critical supplies – including food, medical aid, hygiene products, and shelter – to Gaza. This new action is expected to further worsen the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians.

According to the Secretary-General, Israel is obligated under international humanitarian law to allow and facilitate the rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief for all civilians in need.

He further reiterated the need for all humanitarian partners to be able to operate safely and in accordance with humanitarian principles.
