Bengaluru Shooting: Techie Surrenders After Killing Estranged Wife

The shooting occurred around 6:30 pm on 1st Main Road in the Rajajinagar Industrial Area. Balamurugan, 40, the accused, worked at a private IT firm. Both individuals are originally from Salem district in Tamil Nadu.

Preliminary investigations indicate Balamurugan fired four rounds at close range. Two bullets struck Bhuvaneshwari in the head, and two hit her left hand, resulting in fatal injuries. Passers-by alerted police after finding her injured, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival at a private hospital.

Bhuvaneshwari had been living with their two children – a 12-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter – in a rented house in Rajajinagar. Balamurugan had been living separately in Whitefield. The couple, married in 2011, had been separated for approximately 1.5 years due to frequent arguments.

Police stated Balamurugan suspected his wife of having an affair, though this has not been confirmed. Bhuvaneshwari had filed for legal separation, which Balamurugan reportedly opposed. Six months prior to the shooting, she was transferred to a different branch of the bank and moved to a new residence without informing her husband.

Approximately four months ago, Balamurugan allegedly quit his IT job and relocated to Cholurpalya in Kempapura Agrahara to live closer to Bhuvaneshwari after discovering her new address. The situation escalated after Balamurugan received a divorce notice about a week ago, allegedly prompting him to decide to kill her.

On Tuesday evening, Balamurugan spotted Bhuvaneshwari near the Basaveshwaranagar police station while she was returning home from work and shot her. He then walked into a police station and surrendered with the pistol. DCP (West) S Girish stated the weapon has been seized and its licensing status is being verified.

While the accused claimed to have fired five rounds, police recovered only four empty cartridges from the scene. Bhuvaneshwari’s parents in Tamil Nadu have been notified.
