The Congress high command has authorized senior party leader P. Chidambaram to finalize a seat-sharing agreement with the DMK ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. The move follows approval from party leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Tamil Nadu Seat-Sharing Agreement

Party leader Rahul Gandhi conveyed his approval to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to proceed with the deal. Mr. Kharge then directed Mr. Chidambaram to finalize the agreement with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Sources indicate the DMK has offered 27 Assembly seats to the Congress, with a potential increase to 28. The Congress is also likely to be allotted one Rajya Sabha seat as part of the broader alliance understanding.

This development marks a significant step toward formalizing the alliance, which has been subject to prolonged negotiations regarding seat allocation in recent weeks.
