Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris will travel to London as part of his St Patrick’s Day program, following a visit to Paris earlier this week.

Meeting with UK Officials

In London, Harris will meet with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy. He will also participate in the city’s St Patrick’s Day parade and engage with Irish community leaders.

Harris is scheduled to address business executives at a British Irish Chamber of Commerce event tomorrow and will hold bilateral meetings with Reeves and Lammy.

Shared Heritage and Economic Ties

Speaking before the visit, Harris emphasized the close relationship between Ireland and Britain. He noted that hundreds of thousands of people in Britain claim Irish heritage, and that the two countries’ families, cultures, and economies are deeply intertwined.

“The St Patrick’s Day festival provides an opportunity to connect and celebrate a shared heritage,” Harris said.

He also expressed his eagerness to meet with UK companies to discuss economic ties, shared challenges, and opportunities. “In the context of our unique relationship with the UK, and at this time of global uncertainty, it is essential that we continue to foster close relationships with our nearest neighbour,” he added.
