A teenage boy was seriously wounded in a fight between two groups of young people in West Auckland last night, and police have recovered a machete and baseball bat from a stolen car linked to the incident.
Fight in Glen Eden Leads to Investigation
Officers responded to reports of a disorder incident on Sunvue Rd in Glen Eden around 11:55 p.m., following reports of a fight between two groups of young people. Upon arrival, the groups had already dispersed, but a teenage boy was found with a serious wound to his arm, according to Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie.
The injured teen was transported to Auckland City Hospital in moderate condition by St John ambulance services, who were called to nearby Libra St at 11:57 p.m.
Police later stopped a stolen car containing seven youths. A search of the vehicle revealed a machete and a baseball bat, Goldie said.
“Inquiries are ongoing to identify the offender,” Goldie stated. The investigation is in its early stages, and police are currently speaking with those involved.
Police are appealing to the public for witnesses who may have information about the incident, or who have CCTV or dashcam footage from the Sunvue Rd or Libra St area between 11:45 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. Information can be provided to police via 105, referencing file number 260118/4082.
