Warframe’s Tau Expansion and the City of Fornax

Digital Extremes announced at TennoCon 2026 that the Warframe Tau expansion will introduce a second solar system and a new detective-style Warframe, Brysko, later this year. Simultaneously, the developer revealed the Warsongs Fable for Soulframe, featuring a corruption-based progression path and the arrival of player mounts.

Warframe’s Tau Expansion and the City of Fornax

In what developer Digital Extremes describes as the biggest shift forward for the game, Warframe is set to expand beyond the Origin System. The upcoming Tau expansion, arriving later in 2026, marks the first time players will leave the familiar star chart to explore an entirely new galaxy, according to reporting from IGN.

The expansion centers on the Tau system, a region that houses the mysterious Sentinels. A signature location within this new frontier is Fornax, a gloomy, alien, cyberpunk-style ring city. Unlike previous open-world zones such as the Plains of Eidolon, Fornax functions as a hub that blends open exploration with procedurally generated areas.

Brysko serves as a narrative anchor, featuring a noir-inspired, hard-boiled detective persona.

Soulframe’s Warsongs Fable and Corruption Mechanics

For Soulframe, the studio unveiled Warsongs, a new Fable quest launching this fall. The quest introduces the Vadagar Pact, a progression system that allows players to channel a substance called Ichor. This path provides a darker, corruption-based moveset—including tendril attacks and the ability to summon corrosive steeds—while replacing the player’s UI with a corrupted theme. According to Wccftech, developers explicitly stated that this system is not a rigid good-or-evil binary, citing Knights of the Old Republic and BioShock as thematic touchstones.

The quest features a new antagonist, Tempest Bayor, portrayed by Ben Starr. Beyond the narrative, the update addresses several community-requested features. Fishing is being integrated directly into the world-building through a character named Grandfather Doyen, and the game will introduce a mount system.

The Fate of Mr. Beaver and Pre-Alpha Access

One of the more memorable segments of the Soulframe demonstration involved a brief playable sequence as a beaver, which drew significant attention from fans. During the demo, the animal is struck by an arrow while attempting to save a baby. Addressing community concerns, Polygon reported that developers confirmed the beaver survives the encounter.

Digital Extremes is currently providing access to Soulframe through its Preludes pre-alpha playtests. Players who create an account on the official website and sign up by July 12, 2026, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time are guaranteed permanent access to the current build. After this window, the studio will transition to a weekly raffle system for new invites.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Both Titles

While the Tau expansion is the immediate focus for Warframe, the studio plans to continue supporting the Origin System alongside the new content. Before the Tau expansion launches later this year, players can access the Iceblade of Narin, a story quest that introduces an Ice-elemental Warframe and a new location.

For Soulframe, the focus remains on long-term growth. With the introduction of playable animals, mounts, and complex Fable quests, the team is signaling a commitment to expanding the game’s scope as it moves through its early development phase.
