Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Ticket Prices Surge as Demand Hits Fever Pitch

Jana Nayagan Advance Bookings Surge Ahead of July 23 Release

Advance ticket bookings for Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated film, Jana Nayagan, have sparked a massive response across India and overseas. As the film prepares for its July 23 theatrical release, trade reports indicate it is already poised to achieve significant box office milestones. According to data from the trade website Sacnilk, the film has grossed ₹4.15 crore in advance bookings—including blocked seats—with 71,509 tickets sold across 1,638 shows.

The film carries substantial weight as it is widely reported to be the final screen appearance of Vijay, who currently serves as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The project, directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, has generated intense fan interest, as the narrative reportedly mirrors aspects of the actor’s real-life transition into politics.

Record-Breaking Demand and Premium Pricing

The excitement surrounding the film has led to significant variations in ticket pricing across different regions. In Bengaluru, where the film has seen particularly high demand, some theatres have listed tickets for over ₹1,000, with Cinepolis at Nexus Shantiniketan reporting the highest price point for the film thus far: ₹2,500 for recliner seats for the 6:30 a.m. show. Despite these premium costs, multiple early-morning screenings in the city have already been marked as “sold out.”

In contrast, ticket pricing in Chennai remains tightly regulated. To avoid controversy and ensure accessibility, ticket prices in Tamil Nadu have been capped at government-approved rates, with the highest price reaching ₹190 and the lowest starting at ₹54. Industry reports suggest that this move aligns with the preference of Chief Minister Vijay to prevent inflated pricing. Despite the lower price caps, the volume of sales in Chennai has been immense; Kamala Cinemas reported selling over 10,000 tickets within minutes of opening their booking window.

Global Reach and Production Challenges

The film’s reach extends far beyond domestic borders, with a massive worldwide release planned across nearly 7,000 to 8,000 screens in more than 30 countries. International markets have shown strong engagement, particularly in the United Kingdom, where distributor Ahimsa Entertainment reported over ₹1 crore in sales shortly after bookings commenced. Australia and Canada have also reported high demand, with the latter implementing a phased booking system to manage the influx of interest.

The journey to the big screen has been marked by significant challenges. Originally intended for a Pongal release in January 2026, the film faced a seven-month delay due to a protracted dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding content and certification. Additionally, the film was leaked online in April, leading to multiple arrests.

Following mandated cuts and modifications, the CBFC granted the film an ‘A’ certificate. Producer K. Venkat Narayana of KVN Productions noted that these changes have resulted in a “very different” experience for the audience, featuring new songs and narrative adjustments.
