At their 44th summit in the Qatari capital, Doha, today, Tuesday, Gulf leaders will discuss a number of issues, most notably strengthening political, security and economic coordination between the GCC countries, and the bloody events in the Gaza Strip dominate the summit’s work.

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said on Tuesday that the Arab Gulf countries can play roles that contribute to resolving the “major challenges” facing the region and the world, and mitigating their effects.

Prince Tamim said in a blog post on the “X” platform: “I welcome my brothers, the leaders and representatives of the sisterly Gulf Cooperation Council countries, to their second country, Qatar, today, to participate in our 44th Gulf Summit.” He pointed out that the summit “is being held at a time when our region and the world are witnessing great challenges, in which our Gulf countries can play roles that contribute to resolving them and mitigating their effects.”

In this context, the Saudi Royal Court announced on Tuesday that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman headed to Doha to attend the Gulf Cooperation Council summit.

The Saudi News Agency quoted the Royal Court as saying that the Crown Prince’s visit to Doha comes “based on the direction of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and in response to the invitation sent by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.”

The Royal Court added that the Crown Prince will meet with the Emir of Qatar during his visit to discuss issues of common interest, ways to strengthen bilateral relations, and convene the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council.

The Gulf states, which condemned the Israeli war on the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, seek to stop the war and push for a political process that ends the occupation and enables the Palestinian people to build their independent state.

The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip since last October 7 has resulted in the killing of about 16,000 people, most of them children and women, the injury of more than 40,000 others, and the loss of thousands, according to the latest statistics announced by the health authorities in the Strip.
