Cairo – INA The Arab Parliament held an emergency session today, Monday, in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. The session, which was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, witnessed the participation of Iraq with a parliamentary delegation consisting of MP Abbas al-Bayati, MP Ahmed al-Jubouri, and MP Ahlam al-Husseini, who confirmed that they were with the Arab consensus in rejecting the American decision. Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, affirmed that “the decision shows a clear contradiction to the will of the international community, and we call on Washington to retract the unjust and dangerous decision,” adding, “We will defend Jerusalem, especially since the bond between the Arab peoples and Jerusalem is great and deep.” He addressed those gathered, saying, “Your responsibility as an Arab parliament requires maintaining the process of rejection of this decision, and the Arab countries must move before the United Nations to recognize the State of Palestine to continue the process of condemning the decision and the party that made it.” For his part, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said in his speech before the Arab Parliament, “We value the Arab position rejecting the unjust decision against the Palestinians, which is considered a violation of international law, and we hold the Trump administration accountable for the legal consequences of this decision, which represents Israel’s encouragement of the policy of colonization and Judaization of the occupied city.” Minister Al-Maliki called on the Arab and Islamic countries to “boycott the members of the US Congress who stand with the resolution against the international will,” stressing that “Jerusalem is difficult to change its identity with its mosques, churches, and all its people.”
