/ Today, Sunday, the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, discussed with a Turkish delegation headed by the Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Ali Reza Konay, the development road issues, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport received by Agency.

The statement stated that Al-Saadawi discussed with the Turkish delegation a number of matters related to the project. He also reviewed the latest developments in the work of the Iraqi side regarding the project designs, and the interest of the government and the Prime Minister, Engineer Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, in the path of development.

He stated that the Ministry sent technical delegations to Turkey to discuss the merits of the project, worked to form technical committees, and established a headquarters for the project in the General Railway Company, which works around the clock to fulfill the requirements of the project, under the supervision and follow-up of the higher authorities at the Ministry’s headquarters.

Al-Saadawi stressed the continued completion of development road requirements with local governments in the governorates, noting that there is a desire among many countries in the region and the continents of Asia and Europe to participate in our project, at the construction and implementation levels, out of their belief and conviction in the feasibility of this road, and its strategic importance on the global transportation map.

The Minister of Transport revealed that he had received an invitation from his Turkish counterpart to visit Ankara to discuss the path to development.

In turn, the Turkish ambassador confirmed that the project includes important projects related to the sectors (land and railway transport), pointing out that a number of Turkish companies are studying the project, and are ready to help and participate in fulfilling its requirements.

The Turkish ambassador noted, “During Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani’s visit to Ankara, we worked on preparing a draft between the two sides. A second draft will also be written when the President of the Republic, Mr. Erdogan, visits Baghdad. These two drafts will form a road map and a gateway linking Iraq and Turkey.”

It is noteworthy that an Iraqi delegation had held a number of meetings with the Turkish side in Ankara, and the two sides agreed on a number of points related to the project.
