Lynn Carrington, a mother of six who survived a vicious stabbing by her ex-partner, says she feels “cheated” following the death of Lloyd Brian Twells. Twells died of bladder cancer in custody just one week before he was scheduled to be sentenced for attempted murder.

Carrington, 60, was attacked by Twells, 67, in June of last year. During the assault in her Mansfield, Nottinghamshire home, Twells chased Carrington through the house and stabbed her in the neck.

Carrington reported that the attack began when she attempted to hug Twells. He then pursued her, shouting “die *****, you’ve got to go,” and repeatedly attempted to stab her in the neck.

In a desperate attempt to protect herself, Carrington grabbed the blade, slicing her own hand in the process. She described the experience as “fighting for my life” in the corner of a room.

Medical Emergency and Recovery

The attack left Carrington in critical condition after she lost 2.7 liters of blood. She was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where she underwent 14 hours of surgery.

During the emergency procedure, doctors accidentally dislodged a blood clot while administering blood transfusions. Medics later stated that Carrington would have died if she had lost another 300 milliliters of blood.

Carrington continues to suffer from permanent injuries, including a lack of feeling in her thumb and a 1.5-inch cut on her hand. She also requires yearly thyroid checks due to the neck wound.

Legal Proceedings and Lack of Closure

Twells was convicted of attempted murder at Nottingham Crown Court in December. In court, he claimed that an imaginary woman named Jenny told him he could not take his own life without taking Carrington with him.

However, Twells died of bladder cancer while in custody before his sentencing could take place. Carrington expressed that his premature death has left her without a sense of resolution.

“I feel like I’ve gone through a nightmare and nobody’s paying at the end for what they did to me,” Carrington said. “I thought I’d get closure but it’s all up in the air now.”

Carrington added that her mental health has suffered significantly, noting that she experiences frequent flashbacks and no longer feels comfortable being alone.
