AI Video Apology
In a statement posted on his TikTok account, Nhunzva said he regrets any offense caused by the videos, which showed uniformed police officers bowing to him. He clarified that his intention was not to be rude or disrespectful to Zimbabweans.
“To be clear: I fully respect the laws and rules of Zimbabwe,” Nhunzva stated. “That said, I recognize that the content in question was disturbing and disrespectful to the nation of Zimbabwe and its institutions. For this, I sincerely apologize to the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the people of Zimbabwe.”
Nhunzva, who currently resides outside of Zimbabwe, explained that the AI software he uses, including Grok by xAI, is designed to comply with the laws of his current country of residence and cannot generate unlawful content.
He confirmed he deleted the videos “out of respect” for the ZRP, adding that he would follow Zimbabwean laws if he were currently in the country.
Police had previously requested Nhunzva report to CID Law and Order, but he maintains he is under the jurisdiction of authorities in his country of residence. He requested that any formal concerns be directed to the relevant authorities in that jurisdiction.
Since the controversy began, Nhunzva’s TikTok following has increased from approximately 112,000 to over 119,000 followers.
