He joked about the pens and their price, suggesting he could negotiate with the manufacturer to obtain them for $5 each, according to reports.
The digression occurred as the war in Iran entered its fifth week. The meeting also touched on Bessent’s glasses, as Trump weaved between topics.
The former president’s comments drew criticism from late-night host Seth Meyers, who described the behavior as a “symptom” and a distraction from more pressing issues.
