Starting August 1, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) will sell high-speed, privileged access to Truth Social posts via a paid API service. The move, aimed at trading firms, allows subscribers to receive real-time data on presidential announcements, raising concerns among critics about potential conflicts of interest and the monetization of official government communications.
Trump Media & Technology Group Launches Truth API for Institutional Investors
Market-Moving Data as a Commercial Product
The Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is turning the president’s social media feed into a premium financial product. By launching the “Truth API,” the company intends to provide institutional investors and media firms with near-instantaneous access to posts from the platform’s most influential users—specifically President Donald Trump and his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. According to reports, the service is designed to deliver information within milliseconds, allowing subscribers to react to market-sensitive updates before the broader public.
The company has explicitly framed the initiative as a response to the platform’s unique role in global finance. Markets already move on Truth Social posts,
TMTG interim CEO Kevin McGurn noted in an official press release. The service aims to capture revenue from this volatility, with McGurn describing the Truth API as a meaningful, ongoing source of revenue for the company.
TMTG confirmed in its announcement that it had already signed up
customers ahead of the August 1 launch date, though the specific fees for the service remain undisclosed.
President Donald Trump Uses Truth Social for Official Policy Announcements
The President’s Influence on Markets
President Donald Trump remains the most popular user on Truth Social, with a massive following as of Thursday. The platform has become a primary channel for official government communication, with the president frequently using his account to announce significant decisions regarding international conflicts and economic policy, including updates on the status of the Strait of Hormuz and various ceasefires. These posts have historically caused immediate fluctuations in oil prices and share values.
Because the president maintains a significant financial interest in TMTG, which transitioned into a publicly traded company under the symbol DJT on the Nasdaq in March 2024 via a SPAC merger, the launch of the API has drawn scrutiny. Critics argue that the service allows traders to get ahead of market volatility, potentially securing a windfall from shifts in stocks, bonds, and interest rates.

Kathleen Clark and Virginia Canter Criticize Monetization of Presidential Statements
Ethical Concerns and Governance
The decision to monetize access to presidential statements has drawn sharp criticism from experts who argue the service blurs the line between public duty and private enrichment. Kathleen Clark, an expert in government conflict-of-interest rules at the Washington University School of Law, described the scheme as brazen corruption.
According to Clark, the move represents an improper exploitation of government power to enrich himself,
noting that the president is selling expedited, privileged access to information about what he is doing as president.
Virginia Canter, an advocate at the Democracy Defenders Fund, similarly categorized the service as a significant conflict of interest. Canter stated that the president is prioritizing a private, paid channel over public transparency, a move she argues is particularly concerning given his continued financial stake in the enterprise. While other social media platforms offer API services for sentiment analysis, experts point out that this situation is unique because Truth Social serves as the primary source for presidential directives.
Truth Social Operations Since the 2021 Founding After January 6
Truth Social was originally established in 2021 following the events of January 6, when the president was banned from other platforms such as Facebook and X. Despite those platforms later restoring his accounts, the president continues to utilize Truth Social as his primary venue for official policy announcements. Reports indicate that the president has made a significant fortune during his second term, a period described as the most lucrative in history, further fueling the debate over whether the Truth API serves as a vehicle for personal gain at the expense of public oversight.
