Two suspects were apprehended early this morning following responses from Marshall Security and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Suspect Apprehended After Alarm Activation
At approximately 01h33, a Marshall Security client on Buttery Road triggered a panic alarm after spotting a suspect on their property. Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre immediately contacted the client while dispatching multiple response units.
Armed Response Officers located the suspect hiding behind plants and apprehended him. Housebreaking implements were found in his possession, and authorities believe he may be connected to recent theft incidents targeting gate motors in the Greenwood Park and Avoca areas.
Greenwood Park SAPS took the suspect into custody for further investigation.
Second Suspect Apprehended During Foot Chase
A second incident occurred around 02h30 after a report circulated on a Crime Alert WhatsApp group about an individual pushing a wheelie bin on Wolseley Road, suspected to contain stolen goods from a nearby scrapyard.
A Marshall Security Armed Response Officer dispatched to the scene located the suspect on Umgeni Road. When asked to stop, the suspect fled, initiating a foot chase. The officer successfully apprehended the suspect.
The suspect was found with a trellis gate concealed inside the wheelie bin and could not provide a reasonable explanation for the items. Members of Durban Central SAPS transported the suspect to the station, where charges will be filed. Attempts to contact the scrapyard were unsuccessful at the time.
Residents who may have been victims of gate motor theft or similar crimes are encouraged to report the incidents to their local police station. These incidents underscore the importance of community vigilance, rapid reporting, and coordinated responses to ensure safer neighborhoods.
