Corporal Rico Pramudia, 31, succumbed to wounds on Friday after a projectile hit his position in southern Lebanon on March 29. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed the death during a daily briefing, conveying the Secretary-General’s condolences to the family and the Indonesian government.

Another Indonesian peacekeeper, Fahrizal Rambe, was killed during the same weekend. Preliminary findings from an investigation indicate that a shell fired from an Israel Defense Forces Merkava tank struck a UNIFIL position, leading to his death.

UN Demands Accountability for Indonesian Peacekeepers

The Secretary-General has called on all parties to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law. The UN emphasized the need to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and the inviolability of UN assets.

Dujarric reported that six peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL have been killed and several others seriously injured amid the recent hostilities. He described these incidents as “unacceptable” and stated they must stop.

The UN has requested that relevant parties ensure these cases are investigated and prosecuted by national authorities. Dujarric noted that attacks against UN peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.
