An unauthorized encampment in Croom, County Limerick, has been dispersed by gardaí, after blocking a roadway leading to a secondary school.
Croom Encampment Dispersed
Approximately a dozen members of An Garda Síochána, along with Limerick City and County Council staff, addressed the situation on Monday afternoon. Up to 20 mobile homes and 20 vehicles had parked along the roadside over the weekend, obstructing footpaths and bike lanes.
Students traveling to school on Monday morning were forced to walk or cycle on the road due to the blocked pathways. A garda spokesperson confirmed that officers attended the scene and engaged with those involved, resulting in the dispersal of all individuals and vehicles without incident. No offenses were reported.
Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Niall Collins, welcomed the departure of the encampment, praising the gardaí for their swift response and resolving the health and safety concerns raised by parents and residents.
Concerns centered around the obstruction of footpaths and bicycle lanes, forcing children to use the road. Limerick Live reports that the individuals in the encampment had traveled from Nenagh to Limerick the previous week, initially staying in the Plassey area before moving to a vacant site in Raheen Business Park and then to Croom.
