A birthday celebration turned frightening when balloons exploded at a party, sending guests scrambling for safety. The incident highlights the potential fire risk associated with hydrogen-filled balloons, a concern raised after similar events resulted in injuries.

Balloons Explode at Birthday Party

Footage showed fragments of burst balloons scattered across the foyer floor as guests checked on each other and embraced. One partygoer, Nozza Usmanova, managed to maintain her composure and keep a steady hand on her birthday cake despite the sudden burst.

“It happened so fast. I’m not sure how I managed to escape,” Usmanova told local media. “It’s a relief that nobody was hurt and there was no damage.”

Hydrogen is a highly flammable gas often used in party balloons due to its lifting properties, but it carries a fire risk because of its low ignition energy when exposed to sparks or flames.

Last year, a woman in Vietnam suffered first- and second-degree burns to her face when hydrogen balloons exploded at her birthday party after coming into contact with lit candles. Giang Pham was hospitalized with injuries to her eyelids and urged others to exercise caution when using balloons.

In a separate incident, a 7-year-old boy sustained burns to his arm after a hydrogen-filled balloon he was playing with exploded, an event his mother described as shaking the house and warned other parents against using the “ticking time bombs” at children’s parties.
