West Aceh district police have confirmed that logging activities by land use rights holders (PHAT) have been suspended in the region since December 1, 2025, following recent landslides and floods.
Logging Suspension Confirmed
Chief of West Aceh Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yhogi Hadisetiawan, stated that inspections in Sungai Mas Sub-district confirmed all activities had ceased as of December 1, 2025. The statement comes in response to concerns raised by the West Aceh Anti-Corruption Movement (GeRAK) regarding the transportation of logs after the flash floods.
GeRAK West Aceh Coordinator Edy Syahputra had urged law enforcement to investigate the reported transportation of logs from West Aceh forests as the region recovers from natural disasters.
According to information provided by the PHAT company to investigators, operations were halted after an order from Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry. The company acknowledged that images circulating in the media of log trucks depicted its vehicles, but confirmed the transportation occurred before the ministry-ordered suspension.
Following media reports, a police team inspected Sungai Mas Sub-district but did not locate the two trucks mentioned in the reports. “Our team has conducted field checks and coordinated with village authorities and related parties,” Hadisetiawan said. “We have also not received any official reports regarding illegal log transportation in the area.”
The West Aceh Police have requested the public to report any credible information related to alleged illegal logging and urged residents to refrain from logging or timber transportation without proper permits. The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting forests and preventing financial losses to the state.
