The West Kelowna RCMP will host two free presentations next month focused on fraud prevention and counterfeit currency detection. The events aim to enhance community safety and awareness, particularly regarding scams targeting seniors.

Fraud Prevention for Seniors

The first presentation, delivered by the federal RCMP, will focus on the “top frauds affecting seniors.” It is scheduled to run for 75 minutes and will detail current scam trends impacting older adults across Canada.

According to a news release, police will outline how organized crime groups identify and target potential victims, the deceptive practices they employ, and practical steps for prevention and reporting.

Counterfeit Currency Awareness

The Bank of Canada will lead a 45-minute interactive session on “counterfeit currency awareness.” Participants will learn how to authenticate Canadian bank notes, identify key security features, and what to do if they encounter a suspected counterfeit note.

Both sessions will be held on March 9 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westbank First Nation, located at 1920 Quail Lane. Registration is free and available here.
