Bethesda Reaffirms Commitment to Starfield as Year 3 Plans Emerge

Since launching in 2023, Starfield has occupied a unique position within the Bethesda Game Studios lineup. As the studio’s first original universe in more than 25 years, the sci-fi RPG quickly established itself as one of Xbox’s biggest exclusives and attracted millions of players. Despite the game’s footprint, recent public discourse surrounding Bethesda has frequently shifted toward other long-standing franchises, with fans debating the future of Fallout or speculating on the development of The Elder Scrolls 6. The studio’s approach to feedback is central to these plans. Angela Browder, studio director at Bethesda Game Studios, noted, At Bethesda Game Studios, our mantra has always been that we don't say 'no' to the player. According to reports, a contingent of players has spent the last three years requesting specific changes to the game, including more varied exploration, intuitive customization, sleeker Outpost management, and expanded combat systems. Additionally, players have expressed interest in the ability to free travel between planets within a star system.

Responding to these requests, Bethesda has scheduled the release of the “Free Lanesupdate and theTerran Armada” expansion, both of which are due to arrive in tandem on April 7, 2026. This move aligns with the studio’s broader strategy of maintaining the title through its third year of support, balancing new, original content with gameplay refinements designed to address the specific desires of the player base. While the update did not include announcements for a sequel or a “2.0” version of the base game, the roadmap confirms that the original title will receive consistent DLC and updates through 2027.
