WP disciplinary panel completes probe into Pritam Singh

SINGAPORE – A disciplinary panel investigating Workers’ Party (WP) chief Pritam Singh for potential breaches of the party’s Constitution has completed its investigation and will present its findings to the party’s central executive committee (CEC) in April.

The panel, comprising Sengkang GRC MPs He Ting Ru and Jamus Lim, as well as former Hougang MP Png Eng Huat, was established by the CEC in January following the High Court’s upholding of Mr. Singh’s conviction in December 2025.

The court determined that Mr. Singh had guided former MP Raeesah Khan to maintain a falsehood she told in Parliament in August 2021, and that he himself provided a false statement to the Committee of Privileges regarding his interactions with Ms. Khan.

The WP announced on April 4 that a notice for a special cadre members’ conference, requested by a group of party members, will be issued within two weeks after the CEC receives the panel’s report and recommendations.

The disciplinary process was initiated with a timeline of three months to “prevent undue delay,” according to a January announcement from the WP.

Ms. He serves as the WP’s treasurer, while Associate Professor Lim is the deputy head of policy research. Mr. Png was a Member of Parliament for Hougang for eight years, stepping down in 2020, and remained a member of the party’s decision-making body until 2022.

More than 20 cadre members signed a letter calling for the special conference, with some seeking to discuss whether Mr. Singh should relinquish his position as party chief.

In January, all 11 WP MPs present in Parliament voted against a motion moved by Leader of the House Indranee Rajah, which deemed Mr. Singh unsuitable to continue as Leader of the Opposition.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong subsequently removed Mr. Singh from the role on January 15, citing his conviction and Parliament’s opinion. The WP declined to nominate a replacement, leaving the position vacant.
