Mississauga Stabbing and Police Shooting
Peel police were initially called to a home on Greensboro Drive in the area of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Britannia Road at 2:30 p.m. for reports of a stabbing.
According to the SIU, a 39-year-old man who had been stabbed sought help at a neighbour’s home and was subsequently taken to hospital. Police learned the man had been stabbed by a family member at their residence.
Tactical and K9 officers attended the victim’s home and attempted to negotiate with the 19-year-old man believed to be responsible for the stabbing. During an interaction after officers entered the residence, a conducted energy weapon was discharged, and the man was shot, according to the SIU.
The man was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. The SIU has assigned three investigators and three forensic investigators to the case, and a post-mortem examination is being scheduled.
As of Thursday, no subject official has been designated. The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates police conduct that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
