Two police officers were found dead with bullet injuries Sunday near the International Border in Adhian village, Gurdaspur district, Punjab, officials said.

Gurdaspur Police Officer Deaths Under Investigation

The deceased were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh and home guard jawan Ashok Kumar, according to Station House Officer (SHO) Banarsi Dass of Dorangla police station.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear, with conflicting reports emerging. Initial reports suggested a possible argument between the two officers, while other accounts allege a suspected carrier opened fire when challenged.

A ‘carrier’ is defined as an individual who collects heroin dropped by Pakistani drones near the border and delivers it to another operative.

Deputy Inspector General (Border) Sandeep Goel, Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajinder Manhas, and Dorangla SHO Banarsi Dass were dispatched to the scene.

As of the time of this report, no senior officer has issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Adhian village has been designated a ‘Vibrant Village’ by the Border Security Force (BSF). The area is considered sensitive and prone to security incidents.

The Dorangla sector is frequently targeted by Pakistan-based actors attempting to smuggle drugs, arms, and ammunition via drones, according to officials.

The BSF maintains a significant presence in the area, which is vulnerable to cross-border smuggling of heroin, weapons, and drone intrusions.
