Two soldiers were seriously wounded and seven others were moderately hurt during clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on Friday and overnight into Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces said, as the terror group continued to launch rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel.
Clashes and Casualties
On Friday, two officers were injured by anti-tank missile fire during an engagement with Hezbollah operatives. One of the soldiers was seriously wounded, and the second sustained moderate injuries, according to the military.
Overnight, an officer was seriously wounded, and six troops were moderately hurt by Hezbollah rocket fire in southern Lebanon, the IDF reported.
Four soldiers have been killed in Israeli operations inside Lebanon since hostilities resumed when Hezbollah began firing at Israel in response to the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Continued Attacks
Hezbollah continued to fire rockets at northern Israel, prompting residents to seek shelter.
At least two Hezbollah drones launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel were intercepted by air defenses, the IDF said. The drones triggered sirens across northern Israel, including in the Haifa Bay area, but no injuries were reported.
IDF Strikes on Hezbollah Targets
The IDF said it killed two top members of Hezbollah’s communications unit in a strike in Beirut overnight: Ayyoub Hussein Yaacoub and Yasser Mohammad Mubarak. The military stated they were senior members responsible for maintaining communication within Hezbollah and overseeing the development and use of communication systems.
Yaacoub previously held a senior role in Hezbollah’s rocket unit and was involved in numerous attacks on Israel, while Mubarak also served in the rocket unit alongside his communications role.
The IDF said it conducted strikes on dozens of Hezbollah sites across Lebanon overnight, supporting ground troops operating in the south. Targets included weapon depots, rocket launchers, and buildings used by Hezbollah.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported strikes on the towns of Majdal Selm, Kafra, Hanniyeh, Touline, and Adloun, as well as on the city of Nabatieh, hitting residential and commercial buildings and a fuel station. The agency also reported strikes on border towns, including Taybeh, and an attempted advance by Israeli forces toward the Litani area.
Rocket Launch Locations
The IDF has identified that Hezbollah is launching most of its rocket attacks on Israel from deeper within Lebanon, including areas north of the Litani River.
Hezbollah’s intensified rocket fire has killed two Israeli civilians and wounded dozens more. One civilian was also mistakenly killed in the north by IDF artillery shelling.
The IDF believes Hezbollah possesses thousands of short-range rockets and hundreds of longer-range projectiles, launching attacks from deeper within southern Lebanon, not close to the border.
The IDF said it has killed at least 770 Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon since hostilities resumed, including hundreds of members of the elite Radwan Force. This number represents definitively identified operatives, meaning the actual number of Hezbollah fighters killed is likely higher.
According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli strikes on the country have killed at least 1,142 people, including 122 children, in the same period, without differentiating between combatants and civilians.
