Several pedestrians and cyclists disregarded traffic signals in Chinatown on Dec. 30, creating potentially dangerous situations, according to a witness.

Jaywalking and Cycling Risks in Chinatown

A Stomper, identified as James, reported the incident occurred around 5:14 p.m. He observed individuals crossing the road even when the light was red, and noted some appeared to follow others without checking for traffic.

Video footage shared by James shows two riders crossing a pedestrian crossing against a red light near People’s Park Centre. A pedestrian also began to cross but stopped midway and returned to the sidewalk.

Two other pedestrians, a man and a woman, nearly stepped onto the road but retreated when they saw approaching vehicles – James’ car and a motorcycle.

James was also forced to slow down to avoid a cyclist entering the roadway.

“I want to give a warning to road users. Beware of jaywalkers and cyclists alike,” James said.

Similar incidents have recently been reported, including a pedestrian sprinting across a road in Boat Quay and a cyclist riding against a red light in Kaki Bukit.
