A landslide in Yunnan Province, southwest China, on Monday led to the death of 47 people who were buried under the dirt, according to what official media reported.

The slide occurred at 5:51 am (21:51 GMT Sunday) in Jincheong County, according to the official CCTV channel.
The channel added that the slide led to 18 families being buried under the dirt, while more than 200 people were urgently evacuated from the area.
The authorities responded quickly, sending more than 200 rescue workers to the affected area, in addition to dozens of fire trucks and other equipment, according to CCTV.
Footage on social media showed rescue workers in orange jumpsuits searching through the rubble of a collapsed building amidst towering mountains covered in snow.
The official Xinhua News Agency reported that efforts are underway to find out what happened.
Landslides are common in the remote Chinese region of Yunnan, whose steep mountain ranges border the Himalayas.
China has witnessed a series of natural disasters in recent months, some of them following severe weather events.
More than 20 people died when heavy rains caused a landslide near the northern city of Xi’an in August.
In June, a landslide in Sichuan Province, southwest of the country, killed 19 people.
