The National Elections Authority in Egypt announced today, Monday, the victory of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for a third presidential term, after obtaining 39,702,451 votes, or 89.6% of the total valid votes, in the elections held from 10 to 12 December.
The authority said in a press conference: “The percentage of voting in the elections is the highest in the history of Egypt,” noting that “no violations were recorded that marred the electoral process. It also pointed out that these elections are the lowest in terms of spending on electoral propaganda.”
The number of those who cast their votes in the elections reached 44 million, 777 thousand and 668 voters, with a participation rate of 66.8%, out of the total number of those registered in the voter lists, which numbered about 67 million over the age of 18, out of a total population of 104 million people.
According to the Commission, 44 million and 88 thousand valid votes were registered, representing 98.9% of the total number of votes.
The head of the Republican People’s Party, Hazem Omar, received 1,986,352 votes, or 4.5% of the valid votes, while the head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, Farid Zahran, came in third place, receiving 1,776,952 votes, or 4% of the valid votes.
The head of the Wafd Party, Abdul Sinad Yamama, came in fourth place, receiving 822,606 votes, or 1.9% of the total valid votes.
The electoral process took place under judicial supervision through about 15,000 judges, from various judicial authorities and bodies, who supervised 11,631 sub-polling committees in 9,376 electoral centers subject to the management and supervision of the National Elections Authority.
The presidential term in Egypt is 6 years, according to constitutional amendments made in 2019, which extended the term from 4 to 6 years.
Voting at home was preceded by Egyptians voting abroad, on December 1, 2, and 3, in 137 embassies and consulates in 121 countries around the world.
