Several holidaymakers experienced disappointment after learning that preview voyages for the cruise ship World Legacy were postponed just days before their scheduled departure. The cruise operator, World Cruises, cited “operational requirements” for the delay, leaving some customers scrambling to adjust their plans.
Cruise Postponement Impacts Travelers
Ms. Lo, a 41-year-old executive, told The Straits Times that her family of four had their December 21 sailing disrupted when they were notified of the postponement on December 17. She and her husband had booked two twin-bed rooms on December 7 after seeing a radio advertisement.
Ms. Lo discovered a pending refund transaction of $196 from Dragon Cruise, which provides sea cruises and is listed in World Cruises’ contact information, while checking her banking app. She then received an email from World Cruises at approximately 4:30 p.m. on December 17 informing them of the postponement.
World Cruises offered a full refund and a cruise voucher valid for any World Legacy sailing within 12 months to affected passengers. Despite the offer, Ms. Lo expressed her disappointment and booked a one-night staycation in Singapore for $172 to avoid disappointing her two young children, aged four and nine. She doubts they will rebook.
Another customer, Ms. Lin, 33, told Shin Min Daily News that her family of eight was also scheduled to depart on December 21 for a two-day, one-night trip. She described the postponement as utterly disappointing, especially as some family members had taken leave from work.
Customers have also voiced their frustration on World Legacy by World Cruises’ Facebook page.
Operational Adjustments and Refunds
In a statement on December 20, World Cruises explained that it had refined its initial launch schedule and would not operate sailings between December 19 and 22 due to “operational requirements.” The company stated that all affected passengers were informed and that refunds were being processed.
World Legacy offers guests the option of visiting the cruise for a few hours or extending their stay to an overnight or three-day, two-night experience. Round-trip ferry tickets, including meals, start from $38, while cabin rates begin at $50.
World Cruises said its customer service team has contacted passengers directly to ensure a smooth follow-up. The earliest date to purchase tickets for the cruise, as of December 20, is December 23.
The World Legacy vessel has more than 300 cabins and was described as a “hybrid between flexible day-cruise destination and a hassle-free multi-night escape” in a November 18 statement.
