On Christmas Eve, the spirit of giving took a poignant turn in Maryland as the Flaming Knights Motorcycle Club brought joy to the family of Corporal Myron Young, a Prince George’s County Police Department officer who tragically passed away in October 2022. The club’s annual “No Kids Left Behind, No Wish Left Undone” initiative aimed to brighten the holiday for Young’s daughter, Maddie, and his wife, Crystal, offering support during a profoundly difficult time.
The Flaming Knights, known for their community outreach, identified the Young family after learning of their story and Maddie’s academic achievements. Recognizing the emotional and financial strain following Cpl. Young’s death, the club sought to alleviate some of the burden and ensure Maddie could continue to thrive in her studies. “The message is giving and the magic of giving, but more than that, you know, for the children,” explained Roc, a member of the Flaming Knights. This act of kindness underscores the importance of supporting families of first responders who often face unseen challenges.

Corporal Myron Young’s passing highlights a growing concern within the law enforcement community: the prevalence of depression and mental health issues among officers. Crystal Young bravely shared that her husband, a pillar of strength and support to many, privately battled these demons. “He was the person you called at 2 in the morning when you needed anything, and he would not hesitate to do that,” she recalled. “That is not the person you expect to suffer from depression and mental health to a point of taking his life.” This stark reality underscores the need for increased mental health resources and destigmatization within the first responder community.
The emotional toll extends far beyond the officer, deeply impacting their families. Maddie Young, who shared a close bond with her father, expressed her gratitude for the 12 years they had together. “We were really close, and I’m really happy that I got the 12 years with him,” she said.
