A new mural in central Tehran warns the United States against launching a military strike on Iran. The image depicts damaged planes on an aircraft carrier with the slogan, “If you sow the wind, you will reap the whirlwind,” written in both Farsi and English.
Warning Amidst Rising Tensions
The unveiling of the mural in Enghelab Square follows a statement from a senior Iranian official that any attack would be considered “an all-out war.” This comes as a U.S. aircraft carrier and other warships are moving to the region.
Enghelab Square is frequently used for state-sponsored gatherings, and its murals are updated to reflect national events.
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the military assets are being deployed “just in case” action is needed, adding, “maybe we won’t have to use it.”
Trump previously urged Iranian protesters – thousands of whom have been killed and tens of thousands arrested by Iranian authorities – to continue demonstrating, promising that “help is on the way.” However, protests have subsided in recent days.
Trump also claimed that Tehran had halted the executions of approximately 800 arrested protesters, a claim Iran’s top prosecutor has refuted as “completely false.”
The U.S. leader has indicated he is keeping his options open, suggesting any military action would dwarf last June’s strikes against Iranian nuclear sites.
The U.S. military has periodically increased its presence in the Middle East during periods of heightened tension. A significant build-up last year preceded airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear program.
