China strongly condemned a recent suicide bombing at an imambargah in Islamabad, Pakistan, and reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s efforts to maintain national security and stability.
Islamabad Mosque Bombing Condemned by China
The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement Sunday condemning the attack and opposing all forms of terrorism. China affirmed its firm support for the Pakistani government in safeguarding national security, stability, and the safety of its citizens.
The bombing occurred inside the Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra mosque in the Tarlai area, resulting in over 30 deaths and more than 100 injuries.
Authorities stated the blast took place after Friday prayers, and the attacker detonated explosives at the mosque’s gate after being stopped. Videos and photos from the scene showed bodies near the front gate and debris inside the prayer hall.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Saturday that four facilitators, including the alleged mastermind, had been arrested in overnight raids in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Multiple agencies launched investigations immediately following the blast.
Naqvi identified the mastermind as an Afghan national affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group, claiming the terrorist received training in Afghanistan. He alleged the existence of at least “21 terrorist organisations” operating from Afghanistan, shifting allegiance based on financial incentives.
Naqvi further alleged that India was providing funding and targets for these groups, claiming a threefold increase in funding since May. He stated that funding had increased from $500 to $1,500.
