A “Point of Resilience” has been established in central Riga, Latvia, offering a warm space, meals, and a donation point to support Ukraine.
Riga’s “Point of Resilience” Aims to Support Ukraine
The initiative is part of a charity campaign called “In Thoughts and Deeds — Together with Ukraine!” organized by Latvia’s Public Media and the platform Ziedot.lv, according to reports.
The Ukrainian café 77 krēsli is serving breakfasts in exchange for donations at the location. People are encouraged to stop by, donate, and take a moment to warm up.
- The “Point of Resilience” aims to replicate the conditions many Ukrainians face daily, providing warmth, food, and a temporary respite.
- Donations collected will be directed to the Ukrainian Energy Support Fund.
- The campaign will run from February 9 to February 25.
Ilze Oshane, a representative of Ziedot.lv, stated the purpose of the “Point of Resilience” is to allow Latvians to experience, even briefly, the daily realities faced by Ukrainians – seeking warmth and a place to charge devices amidst ongoing conflict and attacks on energy infrastructure.
Funds raised during the campaign, which runs through February 25, will be used to purchase generators, heaters, and other essential equipment for Ukraine, based on the needs identified by the Ukrainian side.
Ziedot.lv is collaborating with the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia on this effort. Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braže has strongly condemned Russia’s deliberate targeting of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
