Manila Bulletin – Jealous ex-convict pours gasoline on house, sparks massive Intramuros fire

A large fire is ongoing in Intramuros, Manila, after a man allegedly set his own house ablaze in a jealous act, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of families. The suspect, a recently released ex-convict, is in police custody and under investigation for arson and reckless endangerment.

Intramuros Fire Displaces Hundreds

Barangay 655 Chairman Johny Yacub identified the suspect as alias Burnok, who had been released on bail the night before the incident.

Residents claim the man poured gasoline on his house after discovering his wife had left him for another man. The flames quickly spread, affecting at least 300 houses and 600 families in the area.

Authorities say angry residents confronted the suspect at the scene, physically assaulting him before police were able to take him into custody.

Firefighters from multiple stations are continuing suppression operations as thick smoke rises from the densely populated neighborhood. Local officials are coordinating relief efforts for displaced residents, including students, workers, and small vendors.
