Qatar Intercepts Iran Jets Near US Base Strike 🚨

Iranian tactical bombers were minutes away from striking a U.S. military base in Qatar when Qatari fighter jets intercepted and shot them down on Monday, according to CNN reports.

Intercepted Attack

The two Su-24 bombers were reportedly targeting al-Udeid Air Base, which houses approximately 10,000 U.S. soldiers, and Ras Laffan, a gas processing facility in Qatar.

Sources indicated the jets were flying at a low altitude to evade radar and were identified as carrying bombs and guided munitions. They did not respond to radio warnings before being engaged by a Qatari F-15 fighter jet.

The aircraft were considered hostile and were intercepted just two minutes from their intended targets. This marked the first instance of the Qatari air force engaging in air-to-air combat, and it is unusual for Iran to utilize manned aircraft for attacks instead of missiles or drones.

Escalating Tensions

The United Kingdom announced on Thursday that it would be sending four additional Typhoon fighter jets to Qatar to bolster defensive operations in the region as the conflict in the Middle East escalates.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated the jets would strengthen defensive operations in Qatar and across the region.

Qatar Accuses Iran of Aggression

Qatar’s Defense Ministry confirmed on Thursday that the country was attacked with 14 ballistic missiles and four drones originating from Iran. The ministry stated that its air defense systems successfully intercepted all threats except for one missile that landed in Qatari territorial waters. No injuries were reported.

The ministry affirmed Qatar’s ability to defend its sovereignty and territory and respond firmly to external threats, urging residents and visitors to remain calm.

During a call on Wednesday, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani accused Iran of conducting recent attacks against Qatar, describing the actions as an “escalatory approach” and an attempt to draw neighboring countries into a war.

Qatar’s Foreign Affairs Ministry stated the Prime Minister asserted Qatar’s right to self-defense and warned that such attacks “could not go unanswered.”
