One person died after a crash involving a bus and a car on State Highway 1, just north of Tūrangi this afternoon.
State Highway 1 Closure Near Tūrangi
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) responded to the crash near Rawhira Rd shortly after 1 p.m. today. Crews from Taupō (two teams) and Tūrangi attended the scene, according to FENZ.
Police report that State Highway 1 remains closed, with diversions in place on the western side of Lake Taupō.
Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency stated that the highway is closed between the intersections of State Highway 41 and Lake Terrace. Motorists are advised to delay travel or allow extra time for detours, as the road is expected to be closed for some time.
