Mount Dempo on Indonesia’s South Sumatra Island erupted Wednesday, propelling a volcanic ash column up to 3,500 meters above its near 3,200-meter peak.

Technical Details of the Mount Dempo Eruption
The activity was recorded by seismographs at 11:45 a.m. local time. The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the eruption reached a maximum amplitude of 30 mm.
Lana Saria, acting head of PVMBG, confirmed the specific duration of the event and noted that no explosive sounds accompanied the eruption.
The PVMBG is continuing to closely monitor the volcano and provide updates. Officials have urged the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and follow all official instructions.
