Perikatan Nasional Adopts Barisan Nasional Platform with 14 Additional Pledges

Perikatan Nasional chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar announced that the coalition has adopted Barisan Nasional’s complete election platform for the Negeri Sembilan state polls as its joint election platform. Unveiled during a manifesto launch in Seremban, the agreement pairs the rival coalitions under a unified banner while adding 14 specific commitments.

The supplemental pledges span administration, welfare, youth, education, and economic development. Key additions include the Negeri Sembilan Blue Economy Plan, a state talent corporation dedicated to artificial intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing, transit housing for newlyweds and recent graduates, expanded aid for lower-income households, and special welfare allocations for non-Muslim religious affairs. In education, the coalition outlined plans to upgrade Kolej Yayasan Negeri Sembilan into a technical and vocational education and training institution emphasizing industrial research.

Under their electoral pact, Barisan Nasional is contesting 25 seats and Perikatan Nasional is fielding candidates in 11, avoiding direct competition across the state’s 36 constituencies. Meanwhile, Bersatu is competing independently under its own logo, launching its own 76-pledge manifesto led by party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Barisan Nasional’s Core Economic Pledges and Target Investments

Barisan Nasional launched its foundational document, themed Make Negri Sembilan Great Again, anchored in nine thrusts and 88 total pledges aimed at building stability. State Barisan Nasional chief Mohamad Hasan detailed targets to secure RM30 billion in new state investments and create 50,000 new jobs over the next five years.

“We are here not only to launch a manifesto, but to renew our commitment to work for the people of Negri Sembilan, renew our commitment to create more job opportunities for the youth, and our commitment to move the state forward faster.”

The Barisan Nasional blueprint incorporates 5,000 high-paying jobs inside the Malaysia Vision Valley, 20,000 technical and vocational education placements, and the establishment of one flagship enterprise per district. Housing commitments promise 25,000 houses and 1,000 kampung housing lots alongside a five-year freeze on assessment rate increases.

For rural and agricultural development, the platform pledges 8,000 housing lots in Federal Land Development Authority schemes, subsidies for farmers and fishermen, and specialized agricultural cooperatives in every constituency. Environmental safeguards target the preservation of 155,000 hectares of permanent forest reserves against encroachment and aim to draw 22 million annual tourists.

High Stakes for Pakatan Harapan and a Restrained Campaign by Anwar Ibrahim

The state election on August 1 serves as a critical test for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Pakatan Harapan coalition. Following poor showings in Sabah and Johor, one Cabinet minister described the political climate in Negeri Sembilan as extremely dangerous for the ruling coalition as it faces the combined alignment of Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.

Campaigning in Seremban, Anwar adopted a noticeably subdued tone compared to his aggressive rallies in Johor. Addressing a youth gathering and a ceramah in Paroi, he urged young voters to focus on studies and family responsibilities, acknowledging criticisms regarding his public delivery.

“If I shout and speak loudly, people will criticise me for not speaking like a prime minister. When people criticise us, sometimes we have to listen and accept it. But surely Anwar Ibrahim cannot always speak softly.”

Democratic Action Party elements within Pakatan Harapan have concentrated their messaging on countering the influence of Parti Islam SeMalaysia, aiming to mobilize voter turnout among Chinese communities across the state.

Conversely, Bersatu has experienced friction during its first solo campaign under its own logo. Party president Muhyiddin Yassin voiced public frustration regarding exclusion from broader Perikatan Nasional tactical choices, leaving the party with limited grassroots machinery compared to its coalition rivals as voters prepare to head to the polls on August 1.
