Carlos Beltrán’s Path From Kansas City to Queens

Carlos Beltrán will become just the third player to represent the New York Mets in the Baseball Hall of Fame, joining Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza, according to the New York Post. Beltrán was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 1995 draft straight out of high school. He earned selection on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot, receiving 84.2 percent of the votes in his fourth year of eligibility.

During his pre-induction press conference, Carlos Beltrán recalled receiving a unique prediction during his rookie year in 1999 when the Royals visited Cooperstown. Kansas City great George Brett introduced him to fellow Puerto Rican and newly inducted Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda, telling Cepeda that he was meeting the next Hall of Famer from Puerto Rico. Twenty-seven years later, that prediction became reality, as Yahoo Sports noted that Brett and Cepeda were enshrined together in the 1999 class.

Reflecting on his career, Beltrán noted that he finished with 435 home runs, 312 stolen bases, and a .279 batting average, playing for teams including the Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers, per Bleacher Report.

Andruw Jones Reaches Cooperstown After Patient Climb

Andruw Jones enters the Hall of Fame in his ninth year of eligibility after receiving 78.4 percent of the vote from the BWAA committee. A 17-year MLB veteran, Jones began his career with the Atlanta Braves in 1996 and concluded it with the New York Yankees in 2012, while also playing for the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jones is the first player from Curaçao to be elected to the Hall of Fame and the final player from Atlanta’s golden era to be immortalized, joining Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, manager Bobby Cox, and general manager John Schuerholz, according to USA Today. He won 10 Gold Gloves in center field from 1998 to 2007 and finished his career with 434 home runs, alongside a defensive WAR rating of 24.4 that ranks 22nd in league history according to Bleacher Report.

Jeff Kent Elected via Era Committee

Jeff Kent enters the Hall of Fame via the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee after receiving 14 of 16 votes from the panel, following 10 years on the BBWAA ballot that ended in 2023. Kent spent 17 seasons in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers, finishing his career with 377 home runs—the most by any second baseman in baseball history—alongside 1,518 RBIs and a .290 batting average.
