To keep expenses minimal and operate without government or taxpayer subsidies, organizers at Glasgow adopted a streamlined model. The Impact on India’s Medal Projections

During the Birmingham Games in 2022, the Indian contingent secured a total of 61 medals, featuring 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze finishes.

The pruned schedule strikes directly at disciplines that historically powered India’s medal count. This restructuring leaves roughly half of the nation’s athletes without a path to compete, wiping out nearly thirty medal-contending opportunities before competition gets underway.

Why Cricket Was Left Off the Schedule

The exclusion of cricket highlights the logistical friction facing team sports under a strict budget. The Indian women’s cricket team claimed a silver medal at the 2022 Birmingham Games after falling to Australia in the final, marking the sport’s return to the event after a 24-year absence since its debut in the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games, according to TheWall.

However, bringing cricket to Glasgow proved financially unviable for cost-conscious planners.
