French electronic musician and producer Kavinsky, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, was found dead inside his Paris residence on Tuesday evening, July 28. Authorities in the French capital launched an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his passing after first responders found no obvious signs of foul play.

Law enforcement officials and rescue services noted that the musician had complained of headaches in the days leading up to the tragedy. While the official cause of death remains unconfirmed, police investigations indicate the musician may have suffered a stroke.

Born in Saint-Denis, Belorgey began his career as a self-taught artist, initially performing as an opening act for Daft Punk. He shaped his signature sound around the retro aesthetics, neon lights, and futuristic motifs of 1980s movies and video games, establishing himself as a key figure in the modern synthwave movement.

His defining international breakthrough arrived with the track “Nightcall,” which was co-produced with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk. The song achieved global prominence as part of the soundtrack for the 2011 film Drive starring Ryan Gosling, securing Kavinsky’s status as one of the main representatives of the genre.

Beyond his defining hit, his catalog includes prominent records such as Testarossa Autodrive, ProtoVision, Roadgame, and Odd Look—a collaboration with The Weeknd. He released his debut album, OutRun, in 2013, before returning to the stage with his 2022 record Reborn following a multi-year hiatus.
