Dilip Mahadu Gavit delivered a dominant performance in the final, exploding off the blocks and maintaining a relentless lead to capture the gold medal. Gavit clocked a Games record and season-best time of 10.71 seconds with a clear lead over the field, surging over the final 30 metres to emphatically seal the victory.

Running alongside him, teammate Mohammed Basil Morssinganakth executed a calculated race strategy. After starting cautiously, Basil unleashed a powerful late acceleration to storm home in a season-best 10.83 seconds. His strong finish edged England’s Kevin Santos, who claimed the bronze medal with a season-best time of 10.85 seconds.

Reversing Prior Results on the International Stage

The Glasgow final represented a direct reversal of recent domestic competitions between the two Indian sprinters. During the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships held in Bengaluru in May 2026, Basil captured gold by clocking 10.63 seconds, finishing just one-hundredth of a second ahead of Gavit, who took silver with a time of 10.64 seconds.

Coming into the Commonwealth Games, both athletes carried strong competitive momentum. Basil entered top-flight competition highlighted by his Bengaluru victory, where his 10.63-second performance set an Asian record and personal best in the T46-47 category, supplementing prior triumphs at the Paris Grand Prix, the Khelo India Para Games, and the National Championships. Meanwhile, Gavit brought established global credentials to Glasgow, having previously secured gold in the men’s 400m T47 event at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games—which marked India’s 100th medal—before finishing as a finalist at the Paris Paralympic Games.

India’s Growing Medal Tally at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games

The historic one-two finish added significant weight to India’s overall tally on Day 7 of the Games in Scotland. Gavit’s gold was India’s third of the multi-sport event, following earlier titles won by weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and women’s shot put F57 competitor Sharmila Dhankar.

The day’s success extended beyond the para-athletics track. Earlier on Wednesday, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar opened India’s account for the day by securing a silver medal with a best leap of 8.09 metres, finishing behind Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle, who won gold with 8.15 metres. The performance made Sreeshankar the first Indian men’s long jumper to win two Commonwealth Games medals, following his silver at Birmingham 2022. With these additions, India’s overall count reached 15 medals, comprising three gold, nine silver, and three bronze.
