Sega Announces Multiplayer Closed Network Test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour

The test will be available on PC (via Steam and Xbox on PC), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Interested players must be at least 13 years old and can register using a Sega account through the game’s official website. Applications are open until August 31, and those selected to participate will be notified via email in early September.

Sega warned that only a small number of players will be invited. Participation is limited to selected regions, including North America, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Oceania, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and parts of Europe. PC applicants will be required to provide specific CPU and GPU information during the registration process.

Multiplayer Modes and Test Content

The network test focuses exclusively on multiplayer systems and will not feature the game’s story mode or single-player gameplay. According to Sega, the test will include two specific modes:

• Pickup Race: Up to six players compete to deliver as many passengers as possible within a set time limit to earn “crazy money.”
• Cops ‘N’ Cabbies: Players are divided into two teams of three for a tactical competition.

Both modes will support custom matchmaking with private lobbies, adjustable rules, and ranked matches. Participants will have access to two maps, six cars with various tune-up options, and four playable characters. Sega noted that the test build is a work-in-progress and may contain glitches or connection issues. Additionally, any save data created during the test will not carry over to the final game.

Game Overview and Development Goals

Crazy Taxi: World Tour was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026. Described as an open-world, massively multiplayer AAA game, it is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2.

Original creator Kenji Kanno is returning to work on the project. Kanno stated that he wants the game’s return to help people smile and have fun and temporarily forget global problems, noting that Crazy Taxi provides positive emotions without negative elements. He added that the revival is part of a broader effort by Sega to revive its legacy IPs.

The final version of the game will feature five cities across the globe. It will include a story-driven campaign where players attempt to recover Axel’s stolen car from thieves, as well as a classic Arcade Mode that recreates the original games. The soundtrack will feature the song “All I Want” by The Offspring.
