Folk star Indira Radić has revealed long-kept family details, including a past custody battle and how she discovered that her son Severin secretly married a Russian woman named Elina in 2021 after frequent unannounced trips to Moscow while the singer was performing abroad.
A Secret Romance, Hidden Flights, and a Sudden Marriage Announcement
For decades, folk singer Indira Radić kept her family life away from the public eye, leaving many unaware that she has a son named Severin with her long-time partner. Entertainment desk journalist Ivana Mikić noted that Severin’s life path was marked by a major family drama when he was a child, after his father and the singer’s former husband took him to Bosnia without her knowledge.
The singer recounted how she first learned about Severin’s relationship with Elina after he announced an unexpected trip to Moscow. Initially, Indira thought he was just heading to a hotel in the city center and asked him what he was doing there, prompting him to reply that he was actually going to Russia.
One day he says to me: ‘I’m going to Moscow.’ First I thought he was going to a hotel in the center of the city and I asked him what he was going to do there, and he answered: ‘No, mom, I’m going to Russia.’ Indira Radić, via Blic
Severin spent three days visiting Elina on that initial trip. Upon his return, the two maintained constant contact through video calls, signaling to the singer that the relationship was serious. To continue seeing Elina without his mother knowing, Severin took advantage of the weekends when Indira traveled abroad for concerts in Switzerland or Germany.
Every time I boarded a plane for the weekend to perform in Switzerland or Germany, he would immediately fly to Moscow. He hid that from me, borrowing money from friends so I wouldn’t find out. Then one day he said he was getting married. Indira Radić, via Blic
Early Custody Drama and Life on Mount Kosmaj
The family history holds earlier challenges beyond the secret romance. When Severin was a child, his father and the singer’s former husband took him to Bosnia without her knowledge, forcing Indira to turn to the courts to secure her son’s return. After going through a difficult struggle and asking for the help of the court, she successfully brought him back, and Severin continued his life with his mother.
The family expanded in 2017 when Severin and Elina welcomed a son named Mihael, making Indira a proud grandmother. Welcoming the new addition, Indira shared her joy with media outlets including Pink.rs and photographer N. Žugić, stating:
I have become a grandmother to a beautiful boy named Mihael. May he be alive and well to us and may children be born, because they are the greatest wealth in the world. Indira Radić, via Pink.rs
Major living arrangements shifted as well. Finding that life in Belgrade no longer suited her, Indira decided to purchase a house on the Kosmaj mountain, organizing a life tailored to her needs where she enjoys necessary peace and a small garden, only going to the city when she has to. Photographers including Zoran Ilić, Dragana Janković, and Snežana Krstić have documented the singer over the years. She left her luxurious apartment in the Golf Settlement on Banovo Brdo—where she had lived for years—to Severin, his wife Elina, and their son Mihael. From Kosmaj, the folk star regularly travels for performances in Belgrade and the diaspora.
